National Learning Network – Waterford

A flexible course that enables students to get practical skills with a host company in the retail industry. The course is a mix of on-the-job and in-centre training. The course co-ordinator will support both the student and employer. Skills in the workplace are gained through a combination of practical demonstration, instruction, supervised practice, etc. Students’ progress through the programme at a pace which is suited to their individual needs and abilities. Progression route can be onto Employment or Further Education.

Four days which are module focused within the training centre and one day (progressing to two in the second year) with the employer focusing on skills in their chosen work environment.

Employer Based Training (EBT) is an innovative training programme that allows people to train in an employer’s business or company while still enjoying all the supports that exist in the training centre.

Two days which are module focused within the training centre and three days with the employer focusing on skills in their chosen work environment.

The purpose of this programme is to enable the student to develop the relevant knowledge, skills and competence in a broad range of office skills which enable employment, under direct supervision, in a general office, or progression to further education or training.

A competency based catering course certified by QQI. Included are job specific skills to include barista training, HACCP, FSAI-“Food Safety and You” course along with Literacy and Numeracy supports. Work experience is a significant element of the course. The course is designed to give students the skills and work behaviours needed to obtain and retain employment in the hotel, catering and tourism sector or progress on to further education.

Modules include: Kitchen Skills, Short Order Cooking, Meal Service, Personal Effectiveness, Communications, Work Experience, Workplace Safety, Customer Service and Information Technology.

Options is a rehabilitative training programme that allows students to access a wide variety of training areas with individual supports in the training centre. This will assist them to make the most of these opportunities. Options allows the students to work on a range of skills: vocational, occupational and personal. These skills help to develop the knowledge, confidence and resources needed to access employment, further training and options in the wider community.
