Rehab Recycle provides refurbished iPhones to support Dublin charities

In keeping with the Rehab Recycle ethos that ‘nothing goes to landfill’, a collection of iPhones, received from a corporate partner, were fully refurbished by the skilled team in the Rehab Recycle Tallaght centre before being presented to two fantastic, Dublin-based charities.

Mo Chara is a homeless support charity and Aoibhneas is a charity that provides domestic abuse support for women and children.

This initiative is rooted in empowerment and sustainability.
Rehab Recycle, part of the Rehab Group, is a social enterprise providing inclusive employment to people with disabilities, whose expertise means that the recycled phones can offer greater independence and vital connectivity to people when they need it most.

The team at Aoibhneas said that these iPhones are “so much more than devices – they are tools for safety, connection and independence. For people experiencing or recovering from domestic abuse, having their own phone can be a vital first step towards rebuilding their lives. It means being able to contact support services, communicate safely with family and friends, access housing, employment and welfare supports, and regain a sense of autonomy. For many, these phones represent a fresh start and the freedom to make decisions about their future on their own terms.”

Colette, from Mo Chara, said “the impact of these phones will be massive. We do have a lot of people, many who aren’t from Dublin, living on the streets. To be so isolated, living on the streets, maybe on your own, to then being able to keep in touch with family and friends or maybe dip in and out of social media if they can. The most important thing is for them to have access to the freephone number to secure a bed in a hostel, which can be life-saving, especially in the winter. This is a way of keeping connected to the real world. So this is huge, and Rehab have been great.”

Rehab Recycle was delighted to donate the refurbished mobile phones to these two charities, which will make a meaningful difference to the lives of the people they support.
