Organisations Promise it to Rehab Recycle

Promise it to Rehab Recycle, unveiled at the official launch of the new Rehab Recycle facilities in Tallaght by the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, Phil Hogan TD, has gotten off to a great start with organisations eager to pass on their unwanted working IT equipment for reuse by schools, charities and community groups. The recycling process has two main steps - the equipment is securely wiped of data and then rebuilt with a Microsoft Operating System before beginning its second life.

Equipment has come from a wide range of organisations such as Fáilte Ireland, Louth County Council and Smurfit Kappa to name but a few – and this is being put to good use in classrooms in St Pius Primary School, Templeogue, Dublin and in the Third Age Centre in Co. Meath which is teaching older people vital computer skills. Kildare-based mental health charity HOPE(D) is hoping that access to these computers will be of benefit to the people who use their service.

The donations initiative got a boost on St Valentine’s Day when Promise it ambassador Duncan Stewart showcased the Rehab Recycle initiative on RTÉ’s Eco Eye programme. There is an ongoing need for more equipment and we urge businesses and individuals to pass on their unwanted working IT equipment on at www.promiseit.ie today!
