Lollipop ladies (and gents) wanted!

Glamorous Fair City duo Aoibhin Garrihy and Aoibheann McCaul showed their sweeter sides when they issued a call for volunteers for this year’s 1 Day for Rehab lollipop appeal.

The on-screen sisters are looking for eager volunteers to help sell 1 Day lollipops on June 15 at locations throughout Ireland in support of Rehab’s local services for children and adults with disabilities and those who are marginalised. The stars added that if volunteering isn’t an option, then people should be sure to buy a lollipop for just €2!

Sponsored by Covidien, a leading global provider of healthcare products, 1 Day for Rehab is about recognising that Rehab works every day, 365 days a year, providing care, respite education and training. All money raised will go towards the development of Rehab’s local services, which are used by young people and adults with physical, sensory and intellectual disabilities, as well as by people with autism, mental health difficulties, acquired brain injuries and others who are marginalised, to support them in achieving what they want to do in life.

Aoibhin Garrihy, actress, Fair City, said, “I’m asking people to give up just one hour of their day to sell lollipops on June 15. What better way to spend a Friday than selling lollipops and cheering people up with yummy treats! And, if you can’t volunteer, then make sure to go out and buy some for yourself because you are never too old to enjoy a lollipop! Grab some for your kids, grandkids, nieces and nephews as well! Every contribution will make a real difference to the people who access Rehab’s services.”

Pauline Crowley, Head of Fundraising at Rehab, said, “Now in its third year, 1 Day for Rehab is about people across the country coming together to raise money for Rehab’s services that are provided in their local area every day of the year. Every euro raised will help us to build multi-sensory gardens, fund new transport vehicles, upgrade facilities and do all we can to improve the lives of those who access our services. We are asking people to give just an hour of their time to sell lollipops and badges in their local towns. It promises to be lots of fun and all for a great cause. We are delighted that we already have the support of Covidien and its employees across Ireland in assisting our 1 Day campaign.”

If you’re interested in becoming a 1 Day for Rehab lollipop volunteer on June 15 or would like more information, please contact Kerry on 01 210 0520, log onto www.1dayforrehab.ie or check us out on Facebook at 1 Day for Rehab.

Covidien is sponsoring 1 Day for Rehab by making a direct financial contribution and hosting fundraisers at its Irish campuses, where the Company has more than 1,500 employees. Covidien will host events at Cherrywood, South County Dublin, Damastown, Tullamore, Galway and Athlone.

Rehab is present in over 200 locations in communities across Ireland, enabling people to realise their dreams, through the services it provides in its resource and training centres, residential and supported accommodation services and respite care, outreach and home-based services.

Public donations from 1 Day for Rehab will enhance services in those local communities so as to maximise the experiences and potential of all who access these services.
