MOMENTUM

Momentum is a leading UK provider of rehabilitation and training services, empowering disabled and excluded people to gain the skills they need to live independently and to gain access to employment.

Established in 1990, the organisation now operates from 29 locations across the country, assisting over 2,000 people each year.

Momentum's programmes put people at the heart what it does, supporting them to remain active citizens in their communities. Some of its service users will need support to rebuild their lives following an accident or illness, while others will be aiming to find a job for the first time.

Momentum's programmes benefit a wide range of people in the following service areas:

  • Physical disability
  • Learning disability
  • Brain injury
  • Spinal injury
  • Employment
  • Sensory impairments
  • Mental health difficulties
  • Care
  • Social enterprise
  • Community rehabilitation

Momentum develops and delivers innovative, individually tailored programmes which provide people with the necessary skills and support to move forward in their lives. These include vocational skills and the opportunity to study for recognised qualifications in areas such as I.T and catering. Momentum also provides training in assistive and adaptive technology to enable disabled people to access computers to enable them live more independently.

Some of Momentum's services have an outreach element which provides support for people in their own homes.

In addition, Momentum provides employment for disabled and excluded people through its social enterprise firm, Haven Products, which operates from a number of key sites across Scotland.

Its care division, Momentum Care, delivers services to people in their own communities, enabling them to live independently in their own homes.

Formerly known as Rehab Scotland, Momentum changed its name in March 2003 to better reflect the positive developments taking place in the organisation as it grew and expanded its services to even more people.

Momentum works in partnership with a variety of organisations in the public, voluntary and private sectors, including several local authorities.

Several of Momentum's services are delivered under contract to Jobcentre Plus. Momentum receives funding from a variety of sources including the European Social Fund.

By focusing on what people can do, rather than what they can't, Momentum is giving people across the UK a gateway to a more inclusive and equal future.
